Dan Milner is the Chief Medical Officer of ASCP and a board-certified anatomic and clinical pathologist. Prior to joining ASCP in 2016, he was an infectious disease pathologist/microbiologist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts. Of patient advocacy, Dr. Milner says, “The patient is the center of healthcare. There is no need for doctors, nurses, laboratory staff, etc. unless there are patients. Patients need to understand the healthcare system enough to ask questions and feel 100% comfortable and accepting of their care plans. Therefore, the voice of these patients, their needs, concerns, and fears as well as their ideas and creativity are required for medicine to move forward with the patient’s best interest at the center.
